Michael Brashears

Vice President of Corporate Benefits

Michael Brashears joined Brooks Financial Group (BFG) in October of 2022 as Vice President of Corporate Benefits. In his role, he provides leadership and expertise to businesses of all sizes in the areas of corporate benefits and insurance. Viewing every organization as unique, Michael designs innovative solutions that specifically address the needs of the company and are aligned with their strategic goals.

Prior to coming to Brooks Financial Group, Michael spent eight years leading the sales team of a benefits insurer and administrator, and two years managing brokers for a large benefits administration and technology firm. These experiences provided Michael with a deep knowledge of the industry and ultimately influenced his move to Brooks Financial Group.

“Over the years, our industry has become very transactional,” said Michael. “While that may be fine for some, I believe we have traded relationships for a focus on products and rates - both of which are outside of our control. I wanted to go back to the basics of what this industry should be – focusing on providing solid advice for employee benefits. That’s why Brooks Financial really stood out to me.”

Passionate about his work, Michael’s top priority building and growing relationships. He invests his time, encourages good conversations, seeks to understand a company’s values and vision, and delves into the ways in which employee benefits tie into a company’s overall objectives. With this knowledge, and untethered by particular product lines, Michael can provide solutions that truly line up with what the company needs.

“In this industry, most advisors are valued for hitting sales goals and selling the products that drive company revenue. At BFG, we define value in a very different manner – doing what’s right for the relationships we serve.  While that may seem straightforward, at Brooks, we’re in the minority.”

While Michael serves a diverse mix of relationships, he has a particular penchant for working with young leaders and start-ups. Michael is inspired by this group not only because they are hyper-focused on their business and eager to ensure it thrives, but because they lean heavily on him for his expertise in navigating the often-complicated world of employee benefits.

Michael is a graduate of Calvert Hall College High School and holds a bachelor’s degree from Towson University. In college Michael focused his studies on Sports Management and Business and was a member of the varsity lacrosse team. Michael is a member of the Maryland Association of Health Underwriters and in 2018 was named “Person of the Year” by the Baltimore Association of Health Underwriters. He holds his license in Life and Health Insurance.

Outside the office, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife Katie and their two young sons, Will and Casey. Michael is an avid sports fan and Baltimore native, making him a natural Ravens and Orioles supporter. His other favorite sports include basketball, lacrosse, and golf.
